Melbourne’s love affair with the Gold Coast just got stronger with Bonza launching a new four times weekly service to its second base at Melbourne Airport. The new route comes just a day after the low-cost carrier launched its third base on the Goldie where two aircraft will operate 14 routes, 11 of which are not served by any other carrier.

“Bonza is all about creating more competition in Australia’s skies and today we offer more great value to the people of the Gold Coast and Melbourne. Our goal has always been to launch this route ahead of the super peak summer season and our team of legends are humbled to connect communities in time for Christmas,” said Tim Jordan, CEO of Bonza.
“We are seeing some very strong demand for routes out of Melbourne to regional destinations like Gladstone, Sunshine Coast, Mildura and Port Macquarie. It’s encouraging to see Melburnians embrace the opportunity to holiday in their own backyard as that is what Bonza is all about,” added Jordan.
On 12 December, Bonza will get wheels up on its first ever flight between Melbourne Airport and Alice Springs with flights for sale in the Fly Bonza app for as little as $139 per person (one way).
Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation Jim Parashos said Bonza’s Gold Coast flights would allow more Victorians to enjoy one of the nation’s holiday hot spots.
“The Gold Coast is already one of Melbourne Airport’s most popular destinations and with Bonza’s entry into this market it is now the most competitive route in the country,” he said.
“Bonza’s low fares mean a summer getaway is now an affordable option for thousands more people who may be looking for a last-minute option.
“The extra competition will also allow more Queenslanders to experience Melbourne’s incredible dining scene, cultural events and major sporting events such as the Australian Open or Grand Prix.”
Travellers are encouraged to download the Fly Bonza app which is the only place to book direct.
Bonza is Australia’s new and only independent low-cost airline enabling Australians to explore more of their own backyard for less. Bonza’s current route map includes 3 bases and 38 routes to 21 destinations with a focus on the unserved and underserved markets. Bonza is the first airline globally to take an app-first approach with the only place to book direct being the Fly Bonza app. The airline was also the first globally to introduce a gender-neutral ‘wear it your way’ uniform including custom Bonza sneakers. Bonza’s all Aussie menu is the first onboard menu to be 100% sourced locally and is ordered on-demand from the Fly Bonza app meaning there are no trolleys to be seen onboard.
