For the first time, Bonza is connecting the Gold Coast to Rockhampton with the inaugural flight getting wheels up today.
Bonza serves five unique destinations to/from the Beef Capital including Cairns, Sunshine Coast, Townsville, Melbourne (Tullamarine) and now Goldie ensuring the Central Queensland region is better connected to Australia than ever before.
The new service will run on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday with fares starting at $49 per person one way.
“With fares from $49, that’s less than a tank of fuel for family and friends to connect with loved ones these summer holidays. Rocky and Goldie residents can now ditch the long drive along the Bruce Highway with a faster, more comfortable and low-cost option,” said Tim Jordan, CEO at Bonza.
“This new direct direct route is a win for both travellers and local tourism operators .We are grateful for the Rockhampton community’s ongoing support.”
Rockhampton Region Deputy Mayor and Rockhampton Airport Chairman Neil Fisher welcomed the addition of the Gold Coast service.
“We are so thrilled Bonza continues to expand flight destinations to the Rockhampton Region,” said Deputy Mayor Fisher.
“The expansion of flight destinations from Rockhampton to the Gold Coast with Bonza is indeed a significant development. The addition of a fifth destination not only enhances connectivity for the region but also opens up opportunities for new visitors to experience the beauty of our community.”
“Welcoming more travellers is a great opportunity to showcase the unique attractions, culture, and hospitality that the Rockhampton Region has to offer. It’s a positive step towards promoting tourism and fostering economic growth in the area.”
Queensland Airports Limited Chief Executive Officer Amelia Evans said the Rockhampton route was new to Gold Coast Airport’s network.
“As an airport operator we are passionate about creating valuable connections for communities and we’re pleased Bonza is joining us on that journey helping to make air travel more accessible to more people across these regions,” Ms Evans said.
