Australia’s newest airline continues to launch its operations with the introduction of a twice weekly service from Cairns to Mackay today.
Customers onboard were both travelling for holidays and to visit friends and family thanks to low-cost flights that went on sale at the end of January starting from $49 per person one way.
“From just $49 per person, you can ditch the nearly nine hour drive between Cairns and Mackay. Why would you battle the Bruce Highway when you don’t need to?” asked Tim Jordan, CEO of Bonza who says the airline is about changing behaviours of travellers by making air travel accessible to the many, not the few.
The North Queensland Airports Group owns and operates both Cairns and Mackay Airports, and CEO Richard Barker greeted travellers to both regions.
“Providing non-stop flights between Cairns and Mackay will give travellers the option of cost effective flying, whether that be for leisure, visiting friends and relatives or the cost-conscious business traveller,” he said.
“Cairns is the home for many fly in, fly out mine workers who travel to Mackay and onto the Bowen Basin. I am sure the flights will be welcomed by them. And both regions offer spectacular holidays in paradise - both Cairns and Mackay are packed with natural gems, unique wildlife, art, culture and dining experiences, quality sporting events and fishing adventures.”
Today’s flight is the ninth to be introduced by Bonza. Jordan says there is more to come as the airline prepares to launch its second base in Melbourne (Tullamarine) tomorrow.
“Next up, we will launch our second base which includes an additional 12 routes including Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Mackay. That twice weekly service will kick off on 23 May as Victorians go in search of winter sun,” added Jordan.
Bonza - Australia’s new, and only independent low-cost airline, enabling Australians to explore more of their own backyard, and at low-cost prices. Bonza’s initial route map includes 27 routes to 17 destinations. Ninety three per cent of Bonza routes are not currently served by any airline and 96% not currently served by a low-cost carrier. The only place to book direct is on the Fly Bonza app.
