Bonza gets wheels up between Cairns and Rockhampton
As Queensland schools wrap up term one this afternoon, Bonza continues to ramp up operations today as it gets wheels up between Cairns and Rockhampton. The route will operate twice weekly and is set to replace a 12-hour drive or flights connecting through major metro airports.
“We are thrilled to bring more choice to Cairns and Rockhampton today with the introduction of low-cost flights between the two locations. We’re seeing a lot of friends and family booking on this route as well as groups travelling for sporting events and others holidaying in their own backyard,” said Tim Jordan, CEO of Bonza.
Today’s new route comes after a big week for Bonza as it started operations to Cairns and Newcastle for the first time. Yesterday, the airline launched its Melbourne (Tullamarine) base as well as Newcastle to Whitsunday Coast. Earlier in the week, Bonza started flying between Cairns and Mackay.
“It’s been a Bonza week as we ramp up our operations in time for Easter and school holidays. Our team of legends are excited to welcome holidaymakers travelling between Cairns and Rocky as we kick off our first-ever peak holiday period,” added Jordan. For Cairns Airport, today’s new route adds another opportunity for new customers travelling both in and out of the airport with Bonza.
Richard Barker, Cairns Airport CEO, said: “We value the importance of regional connectivity and these new flights will give travellers from both Cairns and Rockhampton an easy way to visit friends and relatives, or experience another part of Queensland.”
“With the increasing international flights from Cairns, we hope to see flyers from Central Queensland also consider transiting Cairns enroute to their overseas destination.”
Rockhampton Airport is now welcoming visitors from the Sunshine Coast, Townsville and from today Cairns. The Central Queensland destination will also benefit from a direct service to Melbourne (Tullamarine) from 11 April.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said it was great news to be able to welcome more passengers from North Queensland to Central Queensland.
“We have received so much positive feedback from passengers travelling direct to Sunshine Coast and Townsville with Bonza and we expect that the Cairns service will be just as popular among travellers,” Mayor Williams said.
“The timing couldn’t be better with school holidays just around the corner and we always look forward to welcoming holiday goers to our beautiful region.”
Travellers are encouraged to download the Fly Bonza app which is the only place to book direct.
